IN C+50 is the title of Aurélio Edler-Copes’s first solo album. Developed after Terry Riley‘s In C, one of the most emblematic works of the second half of the twentieth century. The project reunites for the first time in the same album the three facets of the musician: composer, guitarist and performer on electronic music.

Written by Terry Riley in 1964, In C is a score made up of 53 modules, performed in loop by an instrumental group of variable size, lasting approximately 45 minutes. Considered one of the first works of the Minimalism, this hypnotic, enigmatic piece has influenced not only composers and performers of contemporary music, as well as pop and rock musicians and electronic music the world over.

In 2014, Aurelio Edler-Copes created the IN C+50 project, a tribute to the 50th anniversary of this monument of 20th-century music. IN C+50 presents a pulsating new version (authorized by Terry Riley) of  In C  for solo electric guitar, 17 virtual delays and live spatialisation. This new version differs from the original in that it is realized by a single performer — which gives it a homogeneous sound — and creates, through the real-time electronics, a multiplication in canon of the electric guitar relayed over the loudspeakers around the audience.

On this occasion, Aurélio Edler-Copes also composed a new work, In Resonance. In this creation for electric guitar and real-time electronics, the composer explores and develops the resonances of the modules from In C with a similar process of delays, reinjection of sound in space and spatialisation. A static, contemplative work in which the frenetic beat of In C gives way to a sound mass suspended in time.
